Bus driver for group of Nashville Freedom Riders dies



NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Trailways bus driver for the 1961 group of Nashville Freedom Riders has died, his household confirmed. Jimmy Allen Ruth was 83.

In line with his household, driving the Freedom Riders from Nashville, Tennessee to Jackson, Mississippi was “certainly one of his biggest accomplishments.”

Ruth’s bus driving memorabilia is at the moment on show on the Tennessee State Museum.

The Freedom Rides Motion of 1961 began in Washington, D.C. by 13 women and men who traveled to the South by bus and prepare to pressure desegregation of interstate transportation amenities.
