Johnson & Johnson testing vaccine on teenagers

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Johnson & Johnson has began testing its COVID-19 vaccine on adolescents, starting with these ages 16 and 17.

The kids shall be added to an ongoing research of the vaccine in adults that started final September, the New Brunswick, New Jersey-based drugmaker stated Friday. After preliminary information from the older teenagers is reviewed, the trial will develop so as to add adolescents ages 12 to fifteen.

J&J says the primary teenagers are being enrolled in the UK and Spain. Teenagers in the US, Canada and the Netherlands shall be added, adopted by teenagers in Brazil and Argentina.

The research is testing the security and efficacy of each one-dose and two-dose regimens of the vaccine, with the two-dose regimens being studied at intervals of 1, two and three months after the primary shot.

Dr. Mathai Mammen, world head of analysis and improvement for the corporate’s Janssen prescribed drugs unit, says it additionally expects to provoke research in pregnant girls and kids.

A complete of 100 million J&J doses are pledged for the U.S. by late Might or June.
